Sherlock Holmes & The Baker Street Irregulars - Sc 3.B. & 4 & 5
Holmes hurries Watson and his "replacement" Mrs. Hudson off to the theater while he prepares to deal with the contents of the carpetbag. Holmes is interrupted by Inspector Lestrade who notes that Holmes was spotted at the ship earlier that day and may have committed a crime -- theft of a carpetbag. In trying to prevent Lestrade from letting loose the captured rodent Holmes himself is bitten by the rare creature known as "The Giant Rat of Sumatra." On their way to the docks Holmes and Lestrade encounter Watson and Mrs. Hudson who are disappointed that the theater event was mysteriously suddenly cancelled. Also Watson was knocked down in the street by a Beggar who bolted past and left behind (intentionally?) a bag of crystal prisms. At the berth of the Matilda Briggs the Captain crazed attacks Watson and relates a tale of fire and brimstone and demons before suffering a seizure and lapsing into unconsciousness. Watson pronounces the Captain dead and observes that the man had apparently suffered a bite on his hand. By Thomas W. Olson based on characters by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Directed by Alan Shorter. Commissioned and first presented by The Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis MN 1989. Featuring Stephen D'Ambrose as Sherlock Holmes David Simmons as Inspector Lestrade J.C. Cutler as Beggar Kevin Dewey as Wiggins Orion Donicht as Cartwright Michael Gooley as Simpson Shawn Patrick as Captain Jergens Craig Wright as Constable Roberts.
